A Passion to Know God

Yesterday in Good News Club, I met with a 4th grade boy who is new to the club. I asked him if he was new to Schumaker school. He said no. I asked what brought him to Good News Club later in the year. He said one day he was taking care of his little cousin, and she knew God. She knew a lot of things about God too. And he didn't know God or anything about Him. He said he really wanted to, so he asked his mom if he could learn about God. She said yes and signed him up for Good News Club, like his kindergarten cousin.

When we talked about God's plan for us, he hung on my every word. He didn't want to miss a thing. He enthusiastically prayed asking Jesus to be his Savior. He was thrilled to hear that his name is now written in the Book of Life. He was equally thrilled to learn that everything God wants us to know is in the Bible. He was going to start reading the one his Good News Club teacher gave him.

We know and believe that God is the most amazing gift we can offer anyone! How fun to see a person's joy when they personally meet Him. It is such an honor and priviledge to introduce someone to eternity with the One True God, and to a lifetime of joy as he walks intimately with Him! Lord, please continue to grow him in his walk with You!

1 Chronicles 16:23
Sing to the LORD, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day.

Parenting Adult Children

I recently met friends and mentors Skip and Buzzie Gray for lunch. In the process, the topic of parenting adult children arose. Skip said, "Ron, remember THREE words: Always, Never, and Seldom." Then he explained.

ALWAYS remember God's promises for your children. Pray regularly for your children, using God's promises for them.

NEVER give unsolicited advice. They probably won't listen anyway.

SELDOM help them, unless they ask and it is agreeable with you. They need to grow and be independent on their own. We shouldn't enable our children but we should come alongside them when it is appropriate.

This is wise advice from one who has traveled the path of parenting adult children.

Amazing Teens

Yesterday morning I went out to the Sunday School classes to check on our visitors. When I walked past the preschool playground, Stephen, a teen helper, was playing an active game with the little boys. They ran one direction behind the equipment, then he ran the other. They screeched with delight every time he surprisingly found them.

Then I walked into the nursery and found Kelsey, also a teen, making sure every toddler had a puzzle and knew how to put it together. She was determined no one would feel left out or unsuccessful at puzzle making.

In 1 Timothy 4 Paul said to Timothy, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity."

Stephen and Kelsey are just two of of the numerous amazing teens God has called to serve faithfully in our Early Childhood department. They all make sure the children have fun and feel loved. They represent Jesus well!

Lord, thank you for the way you created these amazing young people. Please continue to grow them into the godly men and women that you created them to be. And thank you for calling them to serve in our Children's Ministry Department at El Camino. Their energy and love help children and adults know that You love them! Please bless them mightily!
